Lorraine Spiro - Trustee
|
My passion for classical music flowered throughout my childhood. I grew up in a musical home, listening to my father’s (Harold Spiro) pop song compositions on the piano. At the earliest opportunity I took piano and violin lessons.
I was talent spotted at school for my natural vibrato, and went on to perform the piano in many school concerts, and the violin at school and in venues like the London Coliseum, as first violinist. As an adult, I retrained on the piano with Norma Fisher, and had 10 extraordinary years with her. |
I was awarded the licentiate diploma for Music in Education, piano from Trinity College London and went on to became a music examiner for Trinity-Guildhall. For many years, I supported Norma’s work by helping out at the London Master Classes.
I was also a volunteer for the Conway Hall, London. They, like the Whitstable Music Society, have put on many excellent concerts, and it has been a great joy to support them, both as a page turner and in other capacities.
Over the last 30 years I have worked as an independent piano teacher, with many successes, including my student having received the title of Junior Pianist of the Year at the Kent Festival of Music Speech and Drama. I am now their piano Vice-Chair and enjoy composing a quick study for the piano every year.
