A reminder for your diaries that the concert on Sat 25th November will feature the cellist Bartholomew LaFollette.

After being launched into a rich and varied career by YCAT (Young Classical Artists Trust) with numerous performances at the Wigmore Hall, Barbican Centre, Bridgewater Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, Bartholomew went on to win first prize at The Arts Club's and Decca Records' inaugural Classical Music Award in June 2013. which identified him as "the most exciting young classical talent in Britain." 

He was also the first recipient of the Irish Chamber Orchestra's Ardán Award. Hailed by the Irish Times for being “as free in touching the heartstrings as he was in dashing off dazzling runs”, Bartholomew's highlights with orchestra include performances of Dvořák's Cello Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Walton and Elgar Cello Concertos in the Barbican Hall as well as appearing as soloist with the City of London Sinfonia. He has also performed The Brahms Double Concerto with Daniel Stabrawa and the Poznań Philharmonic in Poland and Elgar's Cello Concerto at the Sibelius International Music Festival in Helsinki.

Programme Change

Bartholomew will be making two changes to the programme published in our brochure.  The Bach Suite No. 4 in E flat Major will be replaced by the Bach Suite No.3 in C Major and the Schubert Arpeggione Sonata by the Stravinsky Suite Italienne - a virtuoso showpiece for cello and piano.

Bartholomew will be accompanied by the Singapore-born English pianist, Caroline Palmer, studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London with Edith Vogel and later continued her studies with Peter Wallfisch and Hans Keller. She won several prizes and also was a finalist in the Busoni Competition in Italy.

Since then Caroline has established a reputation as a chamber musician and soloist and has performed in the USA and throughout Europe. She has been a participant in various chamber music festivals in Europe and America. Alongside her career as a pianist she has been a piano professor at the Guildhall since 1990, where she coaches chamber repertoire as well as teaching individual students.
