Christopher Palmer - Trustee
Many years ago I was a cathedral chorister concurrently being educated at a music school. Sadly not sufficiently talented to make a performing career in music I have settled for the next best thing, being an avid audience member and enthusiastic consumer of live classical music.
I moved to Canterbury just over a decade ago so the first cultural thing to do was to find an excellent chamber music society. Having sampled the choices in the Canterbury and surrounding areas it was the Whitstable Music Society which came top of my list. |
I have been a season ticket holder for many years and as the society relies upon volunteers too I thought that I could show my appreciation of the splendid work that the Whitstable Music Society does by helping the concert manager prepare on a Saturday morning for each of our concerts. This includes arranging the chairs, moving the piano, arranging the music stands and setting up the lights.
Richard Hubbard, our longstanding concert manager, who had been with the society since its inception over forty years ago, finally decided that it was time for him to stand down and I embraced the suggestion by the committee to take on his role.
The musical quality of our concert seasons far surpasses any normal expectation of a regional music club or society. Our regular audience know this all too well as they return time and time again for our concerts. The society as a whole is very welcoming and convivial and the atmosphere is very easy going. Our performers consistently thank us for the warm welcome they always receive at the Whitstable Music Society and many of them come to perform for us again. Come and see for yourselves. When you have been for the first time you will want to return too.
