After spending the first half of my life singing in various choirs –Portsmouth Bach Choir, Canterbury Choral Society, and even with the monks at Ramsgate Priory, my voice packed up and I found myself looking for a musical alternative.
And right on my doorstep, there it was – Whitstable Music Society! I had to become acquainted with an altogether different type of music but what fun it was, to discover chamber music in all its manifestations in such a warm and friendly atmosphere and to meet the professional musicians close up. |
I became Secretary (and Provider of Refreshments for the artists - most important!) some years ago and have found that participation in the running of WMS is a fantastic way of feeling part of the classical music scene.
WMS in particular is a society which prides itself on raising the profile of classical chamber music in the region through musically rewarding concerts, and at the same time commands such a friendly following among its members, that every concert evening rejoices in a sense of occasion.
